Sammamish is a historic bedroom community for the tech industry set in a pristine northwest context. Envision Sammamish 2044—the City’s latest comprehensive plan update—is a crucial guide for this Seattle suburb to balance significant growth and new economic development with affordability and ecological stewardship. Led by Framework, Envision Sammamish involved extensive analysis, creative policy-making, and thorough public engagement to produce a plan that would hit the standard for Washington’s Growth Management Act and King County’s Affordable Housing Committee while elevating local priorities for context-sensitive development and protecting beloved environmental assets.

Plan highlights include a refreshed future land use map with adequate capacity for new jobs and homes that can serve a variety of incomes, a racially disparate impact analysis for housing, and a new climate change and resiliency element. A new economic development element emphasizes local business creation and walkable, people-centered placemaking for the City’s fiscal sustainability. Futurewise, a Washington-based organization that works with communities to plan a just, sustainable future, recognized Envision Sammamish 2044 with their “Livable Communities Award.”

Framework has been working with the City of Sammamish since 2017 on a range of other long-range planning efforts, including the creation of a new Unified Development Code, arts and culture plan, middle housing code implementation, and updates to its Town Center Plan and Code.
