This masterplan focus on a new transit oriented development district in the City of Essex Junction, VT, a city about a 30 minute drive (and a 45 minute bus) from Burlington, VT. Vermont is currently in the process of creating it’s first set of affordable housing mandates in response to a severe housing shortage which is particularly acute in Chittenden County (the home of Essex Junction). The masterplan works in concert with housing goals by pro-actively allow more housing, while providing a road map for strategic community public realm investments to increase walkability, and public space. Plan actions span from municipal code updates (in progress), to community capacity building efforts, to temporary activations to test new road alignments.
