From Housing to Neighborhoods: Learning Globally, Building Locally

Framework collaborated with Futurewise, CO-urban, and the ScanDesign Foundation to develop a Model Housing and Neighborhoods Masterclass, an international forum for sharing knowledge and experiences about housing models for sustainable, human-scale neighborhoods. The immersive program consists of an April, 2025 study trip to Copenhagen and towns in Denmark and Sweden to explore housing types and housing policies with pre- and post-trip activities locally in the Pacific Northwest. Participants in the Masterclass included elected officials, planners, and housing experts from across Washington State. The themes that are being pursued in follow-up activities include consideration of alternative financing mechanisms and the idea of not just adding housing, but creating neighborhoods and communities.
