Job Title: Urban Design and Planning Intern
Location: Capitol Hill, Seattle
Type: Internship (Full time/paid)
Duration: Summer 2025, with opportunity to continue into the academic year

Position Overview

We are looking for a Urban Design and Planning Intern who’s a self-starter and passionate about community building and the quality of urban life to support our interdisciplinary team in summer 2025. This role offers hands-on experience in designing, planning, and visualizing urban spaces, contributing to real-world projects that enhance livability, accessibility, and sustainability in the built environment. In addition to supporting ongoing project work including code development and public facing graphics production, the internship includes an independent research component tentatively focusing on our ongoing middle housing work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create visual materials including renderings, maps, sections, and diagrams using tools like Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhino and GIS

  • Collaborate on community engagement efforts, including preparation of workshop materials and participation in community events

  • Help prepare presentations and reports for ongoing projects

  • Complete an independent research project that supports best practices in urban planning

  • Support firm branding and communications efforts

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Urban Design, Urban Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field

  • Strong graphic and visual communication skills

  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Rhino, ArcGIS)

  • Basic understanding of planning and urban design principles

  • Excellent research, writing, and organizational skills

  • Passion for creative problem solving and working on interdisciplinary projects

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with urban design guidelines, zoning codes, or form-based codes

  • Experience working in interdisciplinary teams or with community-based design projects

  • Community engagement experience
