bridging art + identity

Like many newer suburban cities in the Puget Sound Region, Sammamish lacks a historic main street – typically a focal point for local arts and culture. The plan sought to do four things – create a set of goals to guide city arts and culture investment, produce criteria that creates guardrails for the City to create a more coherent City identity through public art, provide a series of governing documents and protocol for the City Arts Commission to direct its efforts, and provide a number of thoughtful projects to serve as a spring board for building the arts and culture ecosystem. The projects focused on building visibility and activity around existing community assets such as the city’s civic campus.

Planning efforts included significant community engagement that used art as a medium for gathering public feedback including haiku writing and rock painting to garner information about community assets.
